Budding soul singer and producer, Elijah (deh Prophet) Oyeyinka, has officially commenced his career in music with the release of his own single titled “Pray 4 Naija”.
Elijah had dropped two musical covers namely, Mayorkun’s Mama retitled, Goodnews, and 2Baba’s Gaga Shuffle, retitled Gaga Praise.
Pray 4 Naija is his first official single under the Australian/Nigerian record label, Humble Tunes Media.
Speaking to Saturday Tribune about the thrust of the song, which reinstates the significance of prayer as one of the reactions to the challenges of Nigeria, Elijah said, “the song is for everybody that loves Nigeria, that has witnessed the challenges the country face. Instead of cursing the country or getting angry about the country, Nigeria will be much better if we prayed for her.
“I am not saying, prayer is all we need to do, but in our discussion about Nigeria, let it be more of praying than complaining or cursing.”
Also speaking about his musical mission, he said, “My mission is to get across to the youth in generally, to make them see God as a father not as a chastiser. I realise that most young people would rather not serve God because preachers present a holy front about God. I want my music to address that.
“I want young people to be able to relate with God as a loving father because God accepts everybody the way they are.
“So, I am using all the genres of music that are conversant with young people to reach out to them,” he said.
Elijah was born in Lagos State, but grew up in South Africa, where he attended his first university education.
